Artourista 5: The Ultimate Tourism, Arts, and Pop Culture Challenge

The UP Tourism Management Society, is an academic organization based in UP Diliman Asian Institute of Tourism. As an acad org, a quiz bee event is quite fitting. It recently organized Artourista 5: The Ultimate Tourism, Arts, and Pop Culture challenge! The quiz bee was open to all UP Diliman students of the semester who were up for the challenge and wanted to win P2,000 + 500 GCs (First place) and P1,000 + 500 GCs (second place).

First 15 registered participants got free chicken shawarma from Meshwe! (Bawi na ang reg fee!) Everyone was served juice and unlimited biscuits ;). 10 teams pre-registered online (reg fee was P120/team) while 6 teams registered as walk-in (P150/team). Because of the number of teams that participated, we wanted to have more winners so we opened up a third place winning slot who got to win P300 worth of GCs from A Taste of Heaven! All players also received discount coupons from Cha Dao Tea Place.

We had a bring-me game during the break and the winner won a P100 GC from A Taste of Heaven. Team AIT (one man team) won!

Finally! By quarter to 8pm The winners were announced after tallying the points. I was surprised that all winners were AIT students (except for the mini game winner). Congratulations to:

I was in charge of finance and marketing for this event and at the beginning I didn't think I could procure sponsors! Contacting  and meeting up with them was nerve-wracking but fulfilling. It was the most stressful part of organizing Artourista 5 but it all went well anyway. I'm so grateful to the sponsors and participants who made the event successful! Also, the ever reliable Artourista team was amazing! UP TMS members were super supportive by helping out during the event. (Tenks guys!) I learned to just not stress out too much because you will eventually accomplish things or get there if you do your best. :) Watch out for next year's Artourista 6!!

Microtel Experience

Our Tourism 120 class decided to have our Out of the classroom activity (OCLA) in a hotel just beside our college, the Asian institute of Tourism.

Lasagna and 3 kinds of sandwiches were served before the start of the conference. I enjoyed the food... a lot! Mmmmm. Yummy! The lasagna was great, the sandwiches were satisfying and the brownies were moist!

We got the chance to see the General Manager of Microtel, Mr. Guy Umali. He presented to us the other branches of Microtel in the Philippines.

After which, we proceeded in touring the different facilities and rooms in the Microtel.

 Inside the Microtel is a restaurant which is the Millie's. The restaurant is also available in Microtel in Mall of Asia.

 Microtel has PWD rooms in which bedding are lowered, comfort room is much bigger and doors are wider than usual.

What we really enjoyed the most is Microtel's roof deck! The ambiance is really warm, relaxing and cozy!

 The whole experience was totally fun!

EchoTourism || First ACLE Ever~

Last week added up to my list of stressful hell weeks, due to the intensity of the Economics exam (if you are reading this and you are one of the poor unfortunate souls who took the exam, can I get an Amen???? ). Luckily, the day of the exam fell on ACLE (Alternative Classroom Learning Experience) day. It's kind of like a day filled with random events around the UP Diliman Campus, and most of these events center around learning something that is somehow beyond what subjects or course you are currently taking. I've never tried attending an ACLE before, so I decided to give it a try since I had nothing else better to do. Plus, they were offering free J. Co donuts to the first twenty registrants, so I had to go! 

The speaker for this event was Ivan Henares, who was not just a professor, but also a travel blogger/writer. It was the first time I met him, and I've been dying to know what he's like. So I'm glad that I went and listened to his inspiring lecture. Up till now his words still echo (hahaha, pun not intended) in my head. Basically he was sharing his adventures and experiences and he was also encouraging all of us to try looking beyond our college, By doing this, we have to expand our experiences by also implementing projects that can also benefit other communities that deserve not only recognition, but also other basic needs. His lecture was very fascinating and I learned a lot from him. 

Afterwards, we had a game. It was basically pass the message and our team failed miserably. But I didn't mind because I had a free J.CO donut whilst watching The Lorax! Now that's great way to treat yourself after a very stressful exam... even though the film had some economic-related terms.
