A Cozy Little Joint: Worth a Visit

Tired of the Metro? Then head over South for a change of scenery! Visit the city of San Pablo which is famous for its 7 lakes! Then while you're at it, don't forget to check out a dainty restaurant located at the city's plaza near the Cathedral.

Si Cristina Gateau Sans Rival or Si Cristina for shorts is a cozy restaurant that offers mainly coffee, pasta and pastries. This restaurant is owned by Chef Cristina De Roma and has been running for 4 years already. It's visited by many locals and tourists anytime of the day (that is how in demand their place is!).

This is what the outside looks like. It will  surely entice anyone to enter. Hehe. It's like a mini cafe that you could totally see in Europe! :)

It has a brick-lined interior space and its shelves are decorated with antiques. It has a very cozy atmosphere which makes it ideal for pleasure and relaxation.

Their menu is very simple. It  has a brief  description of each meal so you will have an idea of what the meal is actually composed of.

Freshly-baked pastries and their famous Sans Rivals and cheesecakes are being displayed which makes it hard to resist not to order! Hehe

Really cute display already adorned with Christmas decorations! :))
These are the different cheesecakes that they offer. Their best-sellers are the Red Velvet Cheesecake and New York Cheesecake.

For appetizers, we had Nacho Mexico: a bowl of corn chips with chopped tomatoes, lettuce, chili con carne, taco sauce and topped with melted cheddar cheese. This is best shared with friends or relatives. Oh who am I kidding! You can even have it all by yourself because it's just that good. Haha! You can order this for 140 pesos.

Then for drinks, we ordered their Italian Sodas. These are very refreshing i must say! Each is 65 pesos.

The blue one is Periwinkle, the red one is Strawberry and the green one is Kiwi flavored.

One of Si Cristina's bestsellers for pastas is the Pesto A La Genovese. Its sauce is sweet basil pesto based and it is served with paprika chicken strips. It has a very herb-y taste and yeah it's much more healthier than the other pastas. You can order this for only 135 pesos.

Indulge while being healthy!

Another bestseller is the Chicken Pasta Diablo. Its tomato cream sauce is combined with chicken breasts, bacon strips and some olives which gives it a distinct taste. This one is served with garlic bread. Don't worry it's not spicy at all! You can order this for only 110 pesos.

Also a must-try is their Grilled Chop. Its meat is drenched in a special sauce (like a barbecue sauce?) that has a peppery taste to it. It is served with java rice and buttered vegetables. This one is 155 pesos.

Si Cristina's best-selling burger on the other hand is their Bacon Cheese Melt. As you can see, its presentation is very classic. This mouth-watering goodness is served with crispy fries on the side. Its beef patty is cooked in bacon drippings and the burger itself is topped with bacon strips and melted cheese and comes in a wheat bun. Wow, that's a mouthful! You can order this for 179 pesos but i promise you, it's really worth it.

For pastries which Si Cristina is most famous for, we ordered their best-seller Sans Rival. It has many layers of heaven-like goodness! This is very different from other Sans Rival that I've tasted because it's cake is actually a little bit crunchy, like a meringue which I super love. It has a balanced sweet taste and is coated with pistachios which makes it even more worth the buy. You can order this for 125 pesos per slice or 625 pesos for a whole cake.

Many layers of mouth-watering goodness! Ugh! :)))

So what are you waiting for? Come over South and visit Si Christina Gateau Sans Rival. I promise you, it's worth a visit.

Treat yourselves this Halloween to Gillian Gail Dessert Buffet!

It's nearing Halloween and what is Halloween without candy? (Answer: Not Halloween) Spoil your sweet tooth with unlimited Dessert! From snicker-doodles to Panna cotta, have as much as you can handle. I can handle a lot so this type of buffet is super sulit!

Gillian Gail Dessert Buffet just opened in June 2014. The interiors are cutesy and comfortable with light blue & white painted walls and playfully decorated counters. The place is good to de-stress with desserts and friends. (Stressed is desserts spelled backwards!! Mind=blown)

Dessert Buffet
Php 299 (with unlimited drinks - coffee, tea, or house blend iced tea)
Php 399 (with unlimited drinks and Rice topping & sauce - salmon/chicken)
*Prices inclusive of VAT and service charge

Priced at P299-P399, you can stay and eat for a maximum of 3 hours. Just get up if you know your time is up because they didn't remind us about our time when we ate there which I think is pretty nice of them. They serve more than just desserts. Nachos, tea and coffee are included in the buffet  to cleanse your palate. Anti-sawa.

Service was good. The staff were nice and didn't get tired serving our tea and coffee. They'll present to you a menu where you can order the listed "chilled" or "to be prepared" desserts (inc. fried palitaw, macarons, panna cotta, crepes, and more) In this buffet, left-overs are a no-no. It's a good thing to practice because wasted food is wasted money. So remember to order only what you think you can finish. Bawal takaw-mata.

I didn't take photos of my own :( A plate of sweet  (c) Allie Dizon
*drool* My favorites include their cakes and cupcakes. Realize that a slice of cake costs P50+ somewhere and here, you can devour a whole round of cake if you can. I took advantage of this and had 3-4 slices of different flavored cakes. The pink blob in the photo was a rice crispy treat (If I remember correctly) covered in strawberry chocolate. Fruits were also available but it wasn't the right time and place to act all healthy.

Unlimited ice cream!!! If you think they have Magnum because of the photo on the freezer, then you got your hopes up. They had Cornetto and Selecta ice cream to be decorated by your choice of toppings (sprinkles, marshmallows, gummies).

Quality
I'm being super honest here. There were hits and misses. Not everything was top quality delicious but most of the ones I tasted were pretty good and delightful! I loved their cakes the most but didn't like their macarons. For a bargain price of P299, it was well worth the variety of desserts you get to taste and the overall pleasurable experience. I have yet to try their rice toppings.
