When we hear the word 'Macau,' we automatically think of casinos. Macau is full of casinos here and there and their economy thrives because of it. But if the tourist is not a casino-goer, would a visit to Macau be worth it? The answer is YES!
Macau is a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, just like Hong Kong. It is a small place so a short stay would be sufficient (well, in our case, it was less than a day). It was a colony of Portugal until 1999 that's why most of the buildings there has this 'European feel' to them.
One can easily go to Macau from Hong Kong via ferry. The ferry terminal in Hong Kong is located in Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon. Just a reminder, don't forget to bring your passport with you 'cause you'll be needing one in order to go to Macau. (Okay, I'll admit it. We forgot to bring our passports the day we planned to go to Macau that's why we decided to go the following day.)
Here are some of the first few photos we took near the ferry terminal.
We went to Senado Square afterwards.
Then, our next stop was the Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral and the Museum of Macau which is basically near the Senado Square.
Then, we went to the Temple of A Ma.
To end our short trip (our flight was in the evening so we had to go back to Hong Kong early), we went to the Macau Tower.
When we visited Macau, it was really hot so if you plan to go there, make sure to bring an umbrella. Hong Kong Dollars is also readily accepted in Macau so if you would come from Hong Kong, it would be okay not to change your money to Macao Pataca anymore. Isn't it convenient? It doesn't work the other way around, though.
Unfortunately, we were not able to visit Taipa where the Venetian was located because of the limited amount of time we have but what the heck! We would visit Macau again this January anyway so I'll make sure to post a more in-depth blog about it next time. :)
