Tambayan and Bahay in One!

"Dahil masarap tumambay sa hindi mo bahay."

This was the catchy statement written in the menus of Tambahayan, a restaurant situated at 63 Maginhawa Street, UP Village, Diliman, Quezon City. Needless to say, the name of the restaurant is a word play of the words Tambayan and Bahay.

Tambahayan gives you that instant "feel-at-home" vibe. The simple, and casual interior of the place gives you the illusion that you're just chilling lazily at your own sala back home. To complete the look of the "living room", they have few paintings on the wall, a freedom board for post-its and cute notes, a wall clock, and simple window curtains.

Upon reaching the restaurant, the waiter will give the remote control for you to select a film to watch. They have a huge collection of movies from different genres. Yup, apart from the dining experience, you can actually enjoy a full movie for free! And in case you're worrying, they do not charge overstaying customers.

When my friends and I visited the place, we opted to watch Blended, a feel-good, comedic movie starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. However, we did not finish the film because we had to go home to finish (cram) a lot of requirements. Talk about hellweek!

The Food at Tambahayan

They used movie references to name the items in their menu. And I tell you, the names are witty and amusing! Some of my top favorites are, R2-C2, Fries and Furious,  Schindler's Fish Tausi, and Iced Tea Dead People.

They gave us free Nido soup! Well yeah, it is not the authentic (and expensive) Nido soup you get in Palawan. Nevertheless, I am not complaining. I liked it in fact!

For starter, we ordered the Lord of the Onion Rings (P80). The onions were crispy, and the breading tasted good. I wish for a bigger serving, though.

Also an appetizer, we feasted on these buffalo wings-- the Babalu wings (P120). As a fan of spicy food, I suggest they take the spiciness of the wings a notch higher.

For our main courses, we tried the following:

Beavis and Buttered Chicken (P120)

Janno Pork Ribs (P150)

Koreanu Ribs (P150)

Yvonne Beef Stroganoffsky (140)

You might think that they have small servings. But after eating, the serving proved to be really satisfying! My personal favorite would be the Janno Pork Ribs. They gave a good cook on the protein and the hickory sauce was superb. The dish was definitely flavorful. I can recommend it for friends to try.

All in all,  the dishes were really tasty.

If you're along Maginhawa and looking for a good place to eat at, give Tambahayan a try!
