WALK THE WALK
Executed drawings with other designs all by Designer Mai Manaloto. |
Models hit the runway last Nov. 29, in San Juan. The graduating fashion
show of University of the Philippines BS Clothing Tech was inspirational. There
was not one empty seat in the house. The show began with Alumni designers who
are recognized in the field of Fashion. They set the bar for the rest to follow
and not one disappointed. The following hour was jam packed with a variety of
designs and designers. All were uniquely independent from each other as were
their personalities which was evident in their work. It was quite a show, as it
should be.
Several months of hard work lead up to that day. The amount of
time spent by each designer conceptualizing, sewing by hand or machine,
scouting for models, generating funds, securing logistics, is infinite. From
their thoughts onto paper, and from paper eventually reaching the runway, the
distance traveled by their ideas is not short of a marathon. This was no walk
in the park.
Tradition holds that designers have the last walk, and so they did with
their heads held high. The emotional impact of their journeys was clear in
their faces and was made more apparent their second time around. After their
first dignified walk, they all came running out again for a victory lap with the
energy similar to that of kids just released from school. May they be that
happy when they walk again in June when the sunflowers bloom.
