Bangkok Temple Overload

Bangkok is a haven for shoppers. Last time, I even blogged about one of the most famous shopping area in Bangkok which is the Chatuchak Weekend Market. But aside from shopping, what is the other thing that Bangkok is famous for? Temples, of course!

There are no trains that go directly to the area where the temples are located so my friends and I chose to ride a taxi from our hotel to the temple area. Since there are three of us, the fare for the cab was actually not that expensive. (Don't ride a cab that charges a fixed price per person. That would be more expensive, trust me. And there are tons of them running around Bangkok, targeting tourists.)

We woke up late that day we arrived at the temple around noon. The first temple that we went to was the Wat Phra Kaew, or the Emerald Buddha Temple. Anyone could enter this temple for free.

As always, the temple is packed with people.

We even saw a bunch of monks near the temple. They kind of reminded me about The Beatles in this photo. Haha!

After spending the early part of the afternoon wandering around Wat Phra Kaew, We decided to go to Khao San Road.

We even rode a tuktuk to get there. The driver was charging us 60 Baht per person so that was a total of 180 Baht!! Well, I even went as far as to haggle for 10 Baht per person (cheapskate!) but the driver said no. We eventually settled for 30 Baht per person (I don't know if that's cheap enough though).

The road was busy and is full of backpackers. There are also tons of overpriced shops (you can get the goods cheaper in Chatuchak and Pratunam, another shopping area in Bangkok) but we still went ahead and bought souvenirs anyway.

After we bought souvenirs from Khao San, we went back to the temple area to visit other temples. We skipped Wat Pho (the Temple of the Reclining Buddha) since it was getting late. The entrance fee for that temple is 100 Baht.

So for our last temple for the day, we decided to go to Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn). This particular temple was on the other side of the river so we have to ride some sort boat to get there. The fare was 3 baht.

The entrance fee for the temple was 50 Baht. There was a steep stairs leading to the top of the temple. Unfortunately, we weren't able to climb it.

If you guys plan to go to the temples in Bangkok, make sure to wear proper attires. However, there are people outside the temples who could lend you loose pants and wraps for a price.
